Proudly supporting HVAC&R Apprentices

As the WorldSkills Australia Refrigeration Principal Category Partner, ARBS 2016 took on an added air of excitement for Heatcraft Australia. With the industry watching on, 10 of the nation’s best refrigeration apprentices competed for the title of 2016 Australian Refrigeration Apprentice of the Year.

During the 3 days of competition, 10 competitors from around the country had just 18 hours to complete four projects: Installing a refrigeration system, commissioning an air conditioning system, refrigeration fault finding and electrical fault finding.

Heatcraft has a long association with WorldSkills Australia. Michael Ryan, Director of Sales at Heatcraft Australia, commented;

The stronger our industry is at the grass-roots level, the stronger it will be longer term and more relevant to the country."

Heatcraft also supports refrigeration and air-conditioning apprentices with an Apprentice Toolcard that entitles holders to additional discounts on selected tools of the trade across its Heatcraft and Heatcraft Plus Wholesale Network. The Toolcard was first launched in 2014 and has now been made available to refrigeration and air-conditioning apprentices across New Zealand.

Refrigeration and air-conditioning apprentices can obtain an Apprentice Toolcard by visiting their local Heatcraft branch with their Student I.D. Holders who register their details online will receive additional special offers and periodic, informative ‘tech tips’.

Heatcraft Celebrates with Customers

Heatcraft customers Australia wide were treated to a spectacular night of entertainment during ARBS 2016.

The Heatcraft Fire and Ice Cocktail Event held at Crown’s Studio 3, was aptly decorated in a Fire and Ice theme with an impressive ice sculpture as the centrepiece. Customers were able to take in unrivalled views over Southbank and Melbourne's city skyline while enjoying live music, magical entertainment and anecdotes from special guest speaker, Jeff "Thommo" Thomson - former test
cricketer recently inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame.

The event was just one of the highlights during the company’s week at ARBS. The Heatcraft stand attracted many visitors keen to inspect the latest Kirby refrigeration equipment range, including the Kirby eCOBoost Transcritical System, energy efficient Lennox heating units, smart access kiosks and an expanding InterLINK range amongst other new products.

Heatcraft also hosted esteemed international guests, Mr Robert DelVentura (Director, R&D, Heatcraft Worldwide Refrigeration) and Mr Masood Ali (Senior Manager, Mechanical Engineering, Heatcraft Worldwide Refrigeration, USA). Mr DelVentura and Mr Ali both presented at the ATMOsphere Natural Refrigerants Conference on Monday and continued at ARBS with customer meetings and an exclusive product presentation on alternate refrigerant systems (Transcritical / NH3 systems).

Heatcraft presents at ATMO Australia 2016

The ATMOsphere Review Board has made its first round of selections for case studies to be presented at ATMOsphere Australia 2016, which will take place on 16 May in Melbourne, Australia.

Congratulations to Mayekawa Australia, Scantec Refrigeration Technologies, Gordon Brothers Industries, SCM Frigo, Carter Retail Equipment and Heatcraft Australia, who will present the following case studies during ATMOsphere Australia 2016.

Practical Applications of an Ultra-low Charge NH3/CO2 Cascade System in a Retail Environment

Heatcraft Worldwide Refrigeration presents a case study for the state-of-the-art NH3/CO2 Cascade refrigeration system utilizing all natural refrigerants for Supermarket and Cold Storage Applications. Natural refrigerants, such as NH3 and CO2, yield superior thermodynamic performance in vapor-compression cycles. The presentation will provide illustrations of an ultra-low charge NH3 system in cascade with CO2 that has incorporated a variety of design features that are highly energy efficient, leading to a reduction in TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) up to 20%. Design strategies that are proven in the field will illustrate the accomplishments of the ultra-low charge of NH3 @ 0.34 Kg/TR, which for a medium size grocery store of 3700 Sq. Meter, is only 43 Kgs.

Heatcraft will dispel the myths of regulatory hardships and prove immunity to regulations by sharing experiences from a Piggly Wiggly store in Columbus, GA, USA, which utilizes the ultra-low charge NH3/CO2 cascade system. This study will share the lessons learned and will validate the design and performance evaluation of the NH3 system in the Supermarket environment.

Results of preliminary energy efficiency data directly obtained from the real-life operating store will be presented with a NH3 system and a HFC system that is installed at the store, giving an unparalleled comparison between NH3 and HFC systems. Results prove that when a system is designed correctly, a NH3 system achieves more than 15% energy efficiency when compared with a HFC system.

Heatcraft Branch of the Year 2015

Heatcraft Management and Staff gathered at the Holiday Inn at Warwick Farm, NSW on 19th January for the annual Heatcraft Australia and New Zealand Sales Excellence Awards Dinner.  One of the major awards of the night was Branch of the Year – which went to Castle Hill (NSW), led by Branch Manager, Michael Nieland.

Throughout the past 12 months, the Castle Hill Branch not only excelled in the areas of Sales Growth, but also in the areas of Safety Compliance and Stock Cycle Counts.

Achieving excellent customer service is a core value of the team.

“Responding to our customers is a daily priority for us. We work extra hard to go above and beyond for them in terms of shipping orders, answering their technical queries and anticipating their future order needs.” 

“In terms of safety compliance, we acted as soon as we were made aware of any criteria. The idea is to know what needs to be done and get it done, when it arises.”

Throughout the year, the team won Branch of the Month in June, August and September, and Branch of the Quarter in Q3 and Q4. In terms of what else contributed to the team’s success over the last year, Michael commented;

“Working with customers who have specific needs and projects, making sure orders are moved as quick as possible from start to finish with minimal fuss. I find having good relationships goes a long way, particularly if issues arise, lastly a follow up conversation is always welcomed.”

The branch is supported by Field Engineer, Russell Cheeseman who is often on hand to assist with project quotes and technical enquiries that come to the counter. 

In October last year the business responded to requests from the Branch Team on getting the product levels right across the entire branch network, to both address current shortfalls and to satisfy the peak demand season.

Michael Ryan, Director of Sales commented;

"The benefits are very real. If the shelves aren't stocked then it can delay a project which is generally time critical, and we know delays can be costly.”

Nieland added;

“It’s worked for our branch and I know for many other Heatcraft branches”. “We’re pleased to be able to offer a wide range so our customers know they can generally get what they need when they call us.”

The Awards night acknowledged other areas of excellence in the organisation and congratulations are extended to the other winners from the evening.  Some of them included:
